Ya podéis escuchar nuestro nuevo álbum en nuestro bandcamp.

Desde que empezamos a tocar en 2003 varios phonemas han pasado por el grupo tocando diferentes instrumentos pero por una razón u otra terminaron tomando otros caminos. "3", el título del álbum, hace referencia a que seguimos siendo un trío. Este disco es el resultado del trabajo de los tres. Compuesto y pensado por los tres y al contrario que el álbum anterior, que era bastante cerebral, este es mucho más visceral. Para el directo contaremos con un cuarto músico que nos permitirá seguir manteniendo nuestro nivel de ruido habitual.

Éste es el disco que queríamos hacer.

You can already listen to our newest album on our bandcamp.

Various people have formed part of The Home Phonema since we first started playing in 2003. For different reasons they all took other paths. The title, "3", refers to the fact that we 3 are still here. The album has been written and composed by the three of us and unlike our last cd, which was very cerebral, the new songs are pretty emotional. We are going to include a fourth musician for live performances in order to maintain our classic noise.

This is the album we wanted to make.

Finalmente han sido 10 las canciones que hemos grabado. Ya tenemos las bases y finalizaremos la grabación en septiembre. Con un poco de suerte en octubre podría estar todo acabado. Ya os podemos adelantar que suena ruido, mucho ruido. Y nos encanta.

In the end we ended up recording 10 songs. We've already recorded the drums, bases and guitars and we will most likely finish the rest in September. We can disclose that it sounds noisy, very noisy. And we love it.

Durante los dos últimos años hemos viajado y tocado por muchos sitios pero ha llegado la hora de dejar nuestras cosas en el local y empezar nueva etapa, etapa de encierro. Ya han salido dos pequeños conatos de temas de los que estamos muy orgullosos, "Uh, sha la la" y "Sex". Cuando la inspiración se acabe grabaremos tantos temas como tengamos. Esperemos que os gusten, ya os podemos decir que no parece que vayan a seguir por la línea de los álbumes anteriores.

For the last few years, we've traveled and played for a lot of amazing locales, but now it's time to go home and begin a new phase, “the lock ourselves up and get creative phase”. Already, a couple of new starts to songs have begun to take shape, which we're really proud of: “Uh, sha la la” and “Sex”. When all the inspiration runs out, we'll record as many songs as we have. Tras dos semanas el momento de devolver el favor había llegado. Dos conciertos, viernes y sábado, en Torrijos y Madrid respectivamente. Podríamos hablar de lo muy bien que sonó todo, de lo buenos que somos y de lo bien que tocamos. Siendo todo ello cierto, la verdad es que lo que nos llevamos del finde fue mucha diversión con estos ingleses locos que disfrutaron como enanos.

Two weeks later, the moment of returning the favor had arrived with two concerts, Friday and Saturday, in Torrijos and Madrid, respectively. We could talk about how great everything sounded, about how amazing we are or how well we play. Seeing how that is all true, the truth is that what we took away from the weekend was an amazing time with these crazy Brits who seemed to love every minute of being in Spain.

Before telling you all about our trip we want to leave you this video highlighting some of the stellar moments of our London adventure. The song is called “Sex”, something new we are putting together (in its beginning stages recorded with a digital recorder and without a bass). The video's super producer is our very own, Raúl Castaño.

Termina de trabajar el viernes y sal corriendo, coge el tren hacia Ciudad Real, monta en el coche, conduce media hora hasta un aeropuerto fantasma en mitad del terruño manchego, coge "el" avión diario que este aeropuerto ofrece, llega al aeropuerto de Stansted, coge otro tren, otra hora hasta Liverpool St, coge un taxi para cuatro home phonemas, un road manager, 5 bolsas de mano y tres guitarras, paga 6 libras por que te timen, sal del taxi, vuelve a la parada de taxi y coge otro que no te time, 20 libras. Ya estamos en casa de Ken, batería de The Welcome Committee. Es la 1 de la mañana. Ahora sí, ¡a descansar! En el suelo.

Finished working and now running out the door to catch the train to Ciudad Real, get in the car and drive half an hour to a pathetic excuse for an airport in the middle of nowhere to catch THE daily flight that the airport boasts to Stansted, catch another train, another hour until reaching Liverpool St, catch a cab for 4 home phonemnas, a road manager, 5 duffel bags, 3 guitars, pay 6 pounds because the taxi driver is ripping you off and playing you for a fool, go back to the taxi stand, get one that won't rip us off, this time pay 20 pounds. Now we're at Ken's house, the drummer of The Welcome Committee. It's one in the morning. Now we can go to bed! On the floor.

Al día siguiente cargamos la furgoneta de Ken. Quedamos en verle en Southend On Sea, la ciudad donde tiene lugar el primer concierto. Vuelta a Liverpool St y tomamos el tren hacia esta ciudad. Paseo por la playa, ¡mira! un parque de atracciones. Nuestro road manager prueba el agua y afirma "no está buena", "no sabe a olivitas".

The next day we loaded up Ken's van. We planned on meeting him in Southend On Sea, which is the city where our first concert is to take place. Returning to Liverpool St, we took the train into the city. While walking on the beach, LOOK!, a theme park. Our road manager tastes the water and gives his expert opinion: “Nope, no good, doesn't taste like olives”.Llamada de The Welcome Committee, "venid para acá, tenemos que probar." The Welcome Committee called and told us to come by and test out the sound. We went, we rehearsed a little and got ready. We'll play third.Nuestro road manager es nuestro amigo Lobato, (a la izquierda en la foto) se ganó este título a base de instrucciones sobre donde ir, qué hacer, de su destreza con el mapa y de sus buenos consejos. También se ocupó de algunas de las fotos que podéis ver.

Our road manager is our friend, Lobato, (first one on the left in the photo). He got this job because of his instructions on where to go, what to do, his amazing navigational skills when it comes to maps, and his overall good advice. He also was responsible for taking some of the photos you see here.Nos lo pasamos muy bien, no mucha gente, unas 40 personas. ¿les habrá gustado? Sí, les ha gustado! Un par de hombres invitan a Raúl y a Grinch a una pinta. Uno de ellos habla después con Ángel y le pregunta por las influencias del grupo, él nombra una serie de grupos y cuando llega a Radiohead uno de estos hombres le dice al otro "¡Te lo dije!" "¡5 libras!" El otro, resignado, saca un billete de cinco y se lo da.

We had a great time, there weren't a lot of people, about 40. ¿Did they like us? Hell yes they liked us! A couple of guys bought Raúl and Grinch a pint. One of them later started talking to Ángel and asked him about the band's musical influences, and he named off a series of groups and when he got to Radiohead, one of the guys looked and the other and said “I told you!” “5 pounds!” The other one shook his head and pulled out a five and gave it to him.
Escuchamos a nuestros, desde aquel momento, amigos Mucofloris, un grupo de grindcore que fueron el alma de la fiesta después del concierto y en cuya casa nos quedamos a dormir. Tras los conciertos, cargamos la furgoneta y nos vamos a tomar algo. No hace falta dominar el inglés para comunicarse, bastan unas cervezas y saber entonar un buen grito heavy-gutural. Cuando pensabamos que la noche estaba decayendo subimos a la segunda planta de un garito y allí, a las tantas de la mañana, a ras de suelo, un grupo tocando heavy, y todo el mundo bailando a puñetazos. Bastante divertido. Tras comer algo, vuelta a casa, a la casa del batería y guitarrista de Mucofloris a terminar la fiesta.

We listened to our new friends, “Mucofloris” a grindcore band that was the life of the party after the concert and in whose house we stayed that night. After the concert, we loaded up the van and we went out for a drink. You don't have to know English to communicate as long as you have a couple of beers and know how to grunt. Just when we felt like the night was winding down, we went up to the second floor of this gambling den and there, at I don't even know what time in the morning was a group playing heavy metal right on the dance floor, with everybody and their mother dancing right along. Pretty awesome. After eating something, we went back the the drummer and lead guitar's house from Mucofloris to cap off the night.Nos despedimos de ellos en la estación de tren por la mañana. Todo el mundo es disturbadoramente majo, nos preguntan si sabemos qué tren es e incluso nos acompañan a la via correcta. Vuelta a Londres.

We said goodbye to them at the train station. Everybody is disturbingly nice. They asked us if we knew what train we needed and they even walked us to the correct railway line. Heading back to London. Es un buen día para hacer turismo, no se nos escapa ninguno de los sitios obligatorios. Somos grades turistas.

It's a good day to play tourist, and we didn't pass up a single one of the “must sees”. We're amazing tourists.

Ayer fue uno de esos días en que todo sale bien, muy buen sonido, una sala muy chula, Hiroshima Atomic Garden que son majísimos y muy pepino, una ciudad espectacular y hasta una furgo cortesía de la casa para que pudiésemos dormir. Bien es cierto que el público estuvo algo conservador, escuchando desde la línea de triple aunque aplaudían como si les gustase, ;-)

Yesterday was one of those days when everything goes right. Good sound, a really cool music hall, Hiroshima Atomic Garden who are really nice people and a great band, a spectacular city and even a van on the house for us to spend the night in. It is true that the crowd was a little conservative, listening from the three points line but it is also true that they applauded like enjoyed it. ;-)

Normalmente nuestros ensayos consisten en periodos de unos veinte minutos improvisando en los que poco a poco algo se va definiendo, aunque no siempre. Cuando algo chulo sale nos miramos, seguimos con ello, a veces paramos y lo comentamos, si toma forma buscamos un cambio y al siguiente ensayo normalmente no nos acordamos y versionamos nuestro propio conato de canción, a veces para mejor y a veces para peor. Para que las ideas no se nos vayan entre los dedos nos hemos pillado esta juguetito para grabar partes de los ensayos y poder escucharlas después.

Normally our practices consist of a series of twenty minute periods of improvising in which little by little something eventually becomes clear, though not always. When something cool shows up we look at each other, keep playing and sometimes stop and comment on it. If it becomes clearer we look for a transition but the next day we practice we have often forgotten everything and we make kind of a cover of our own song, sometimes for the better other times for the worse. In order not to let these slip between our fingers we've bought this little toy to record some parts of the rehearsal that we can listen to afterwards.

We already have another date for our stay in London. We'll be there for the holiday weekend in October (from the 9th to the 12th) We'll play with The Welcome Committee on Saturday and with them plus A Simple Disguise and The Familiar Smile on Monday. We hope to have fun and have a good time. If someone is nuts enough to come over with us, they should watch out the trees, apparently they are too low. Nos ofrecieron la fecha de ayer para tocar en Moby Dick (gracias Mae) y enseguida nos pusimos en contacto con Rosvita. Vimos que acababan más o menos en esa fecha su gira europea así que tuvimos suerte y dijeron sí a nuestra invitación. Es un lujazo tocar con este grupo, hubiéramos ido a verlos aunque no hubiéramos tocado nosotros, tienen un directo que quizá sea el mejor de Madrid. El concierto fue todo un éxito, Moby Dick siempre ofrece un sonido muy bueno y la entrada estuvo bastante bien, mucho más siendo un martes de julio.

We were offered yesterday to play at Moby Dick and we got right away in touch with Rosvita. We noticed they were finishing their European tour by the time our concert was set so we got lucky and they said yes to our offer. It's a luxury to play with this amazing band, we would actually have gone to see them even if we were not playing with them. Rosavita live might be one of the best performances in Madrid. The concert was a success, Moby Dick has very good acoustics and the attendance was ok, more than ok if we keep in mind it was on a Tuesday in July.

Nasti y Contempopranea

Este fin de semana nos hemos marcado un par de conciertos en Madrid (Nasti, organizado por Indypendientes) y en Bolaños de Calatrava (Ciudad Real, presentando el Contempopranea) Gracias a los chicos de Spinning Plates por alojarnos. Ambos conciertos los dimos con Hiroshima Atomic Garden con los cuales seguiremos tocando en Septiembre por el sur. Otro día os explico lo que es un bolaño.

This weekend we had a couple of concerts in Madrid (at Nasti, organized by Indypendientes) and in Bolaños de Calatrava (in Ciudad Real, in the Contempopranea Festival) Thanks to Spinning Plates for letting us crash at their houses. Todos sabíamos que tarde o temprano un theremin pasaría a formar parte de los botoncitos de los Home Phonema. David ha sido el culpable y últimamente está casi más pendiente del cacharro que de la guitarra. Seguro que lo podréis escuchar en algún tema de la próxima grabación.

We all knew that sooner or later a theremin would go on to form part of this band's little buttons. David is the one to blame and lately he's been focusing almost more on this piece of junk than on his guitar. You'll surely listen to it in any of the songs that make up our next album.

Situaciones excepcionales, Córdoba / Exceptional situations, Córdoba

Grinx se estaba muriendo el día antes del concierto de Córdoba. Tuvimos que tomar una decisión los tres que quedábamos sanos durante ese último ensayo. Probamos a adaptar algunos temas sin bajo. No queríamos quedar mal con la gente que había preparado el concierto y la verdad es que teníamos muchas ganas de ir y de tocar. El set de canciones se quedó en 25 minutos pero sonó, algo sonó.

Grinx was practically dying the day before our gig in Cordoba. We had to make a decision whether to stay or go just with the three healthy ones during our last practice before Córdoba. We tried adapting some of the songs so we could play them without a bass guitar. We didn't want to make a bad impression the people who had prepared the gig and to tell the truth we were looking forward to going and playing. The set ended up lasting just 25 minutes but it sounded, something sounded.

THP junto a Red Carmine en Fotomatón

Ayer tocamos junto a los bilbainos Red Carmine en la sala madrileña Fotomatón. Fue una de esas ocasiones en que sientes que el grupo que está tocando junto a ti complementa perfectamente al tuyo. El público también opinó de este modo y lo agradeció. El concierto estuvo integrado en una presentación del programa radiofónico Salsa de Carne, cuyos DJs pincharon tras las actuaciones. Supongo que esta foto fue tomada al principio del concierto porque sudamos como pollos.

Yesterday we played with the Basque band Red Carmine at the music hall Fotomaton, in Madrid. It was one of those times you feel the band your playing with complements perfectly with your own. The public thought so as well and appreciated it. The concert was part of a presentation by the radio program Salsa de Carne whose DJs played after the show. I guess the photo above was taken at the beginning of the concert 'cause by the end we all were sweating buckets.

Ukelele-man

Raúl toca la batería pero no sólo toca la batería, de hecho, sobre todo toca el ukelele. Si le ves por la calle párale y pídele que "se toque una buena", seguro que lleva su ukelele consigo y te puede deleitar.

Raúl is a drummer but he doesn't only play drums, in fact, he plays the ukelele more than anything else. If you see him walking on the street just stop him and ask him "to play a good one", he's bound to have his ukelele on his person and he might delight you.

En fin... nos hace mucha ilusión que después de mucho trabajo, colegas repartidos por España y la indispensable labor de nuestro manager el señor "pelo-(di lo que quieras despues)" este otoño podremos hacer una gira como siempre habiamos querido. Si todo cuadra y no ocurren imprevistos estaremos tocando en diferentes ciudades repartidas por todo el pais de finde en finde durante las proximas semanas... Pronto os daremos mas detalles de las fechas, de momento ya tenemos algunas publicadas.

After a lot of work and thanks to having a lot of friends from all over Spain and to the indispensable labor of our manager "Hair- say whatever you want afterwards", this fall we're going to be able to do a tour like we've always wanted. Siempre hemos sido un desastre a la hora de buscar bolos, enviar mails, hacer carteles, contactar con gente y todo lo que al management se refiere. Pero aquellos tiempos oscuros ya pasaron y como podéis ver el volumen de conciertos de The Home Phonema, así como su presencia en los medios es mucho mayor. El gran culpable de este cambio es nuestro nuevo manager (antes de manager amigo), nuestro gran fichaje para promocionar el nuevo álbum con conciertos por doquier. We’ve always sucked at getting gigs, sending emails, making posters, keeping in touch with the right people and everything that management involves. Those times are long gone now and as you might have noticed, our volume of concerts and presence in the media is much greater recently. The person responsible for this change is our manager (friend first and manager second) Ángel Lamenor. You might remember him from previous projects he had like the musical fanzine Lamenor or from the current musical radio program “Salsa de Carne”.

Ayer saltamos, gozamos, vomitamos, punzamos pezones, perdimos algun trozo de epidermis y desde nuestro punto de vista dimos uno de nuestros mejores conciertos. Después de la final la gente se acercó, nos felicitó y nos ofreció conciertos y otras ofertas relacionadas con la música... al final puede que a la postre ganemos de manera indirecta más de lo que pensabamos. Si el jurado no quiso que ganáramos al menos todos los que nos apoyasteis sí lo hicisteis, unos conocidos, otros desconocidos, el caso es que ayer, dijera lo que dijera el jurado, fue una noche donde crecimos como grupo y donde nos reafirmamos allí donde nos gusta, en el escenario.

PD: Muchas gracias a toda la organización, en especial a Jose Gallardo por organizar las cosas de manera digna y en apoyo a la música. Enhorabuena también a Mañana, disfrutadlo chicos.

Yesterday we jumped, enjoyed, vomited, made people's nipples hard, lost a few pieces of epidermis and from our viewpoint we gave one of the best gigs we've ever given. After the final song, people came over, congratulated us and offered other gigs and music related offers. In the end we could say we inadvertently won more than we expected. If the judges didn't want us to win at least every one of you who supported us, known and unknown, did. Yesterday, no matter what the judges decided, was a special night that made us grow as a band and reasserted ourselves there, on stage, where we like to be.

The Home Phonema ha sido elegido finalista del concurso Demonova'09 que organiza la web supernovapop.com La final es el sábado 23 de mayo en la sala Moby Dick de Madrid, la entrada es gratuita con invitación. Los otros 2 grupos que han llegado a la final son Mañana (Sevilla) y Damien Lott (Valencia). Toda la información la podeis encontrar aquí.

El premio sería tocar en el festival Sonorama. Hay que decir que nuestro puesto en la final se debe a haber sido el grupo más votado por el público lo que nos llena de ilusión y por el que damos las gracias, sentiros parte de esto porque en verdad lo sois.

The Home Phonema's been chosen as one of the finalists of the Demonova '09 contest organized by the website supernovapop.com. The final will take place on Saturday, May 23rd at the music hall Moby Dick in Madrid. Admission is free with an invitation. Robochico or Javi Noguerol is our VJ. He listens to our songs, reads our lyrics, invites us to dinner to his apartment, inquiries about certain things he sees in the show, and creates visual effects to project live on us while playing. He complements and completes the band permitting a new understanding of our music through a new artistic variation. He also doubles as our photographer, (he photographed our last photo sitting). We're also planning on making the video of "Plastic Plastic" under his direction.

El proceso de gestación de “There's nothing left to give up”, nuevo EP de los toledanos The Home Phonema, ha tenido la suerte o la desgracia de tener que adecuarse a un niveles de presión bastante altos. Un caótico periodo de casi 3 años, definido por ausencias, búsquedas inconclusas, parones de difícil arrancada, cambios en la formación, mudanzas de local y demás historias de las que dan ganas de quemar la toalla. Mucha investigación y desarrollo, muchas idas y venidas, desde el fondo del Sena hasta lo más profundo de la estepa.

El desenlace de toda esta historia ha sido grabado en la Zona Temporalmente Autónoma de su vecino Carlos Toronado (PAL, Remate) y posteriormente masterizado por el prestigioso J.M. Rosillo (etcétera, etcétera).

Un total de siete temas que han conseguido definirlos como seres humanos e indirectamente como agrupación músico-social de ellos. “There's nothing left to give up” denota cierto eclecticismo de influencias (desde lo más limpio de grupos como Mogwai, Fugazi o los siempre presentes Joy Division, hasta lo más sucio de Velvet Underground o ¿por qué no? The Arcade Fire) pero sin perder en ningún momento el hilo conductor al que han quedado fuertemente amarrados. Madurez no fruto de la edad, sino del trabajo.

Están en su mejor momento y miran hacia delante, más que concienciados de que no hay nada más que dejar.

“There’s Nothing Left to Give Up” is the newest album of The Home Phonema based in Toledo, Spain. Created in spite of significant obstacles, the strength of the album’s music is a testament to three chaotic years of development, a time that tested both the group’s endurance and commitment. A few changes in formation, a couple moves of rehearsal locales and other issues, while difficult, eventually aided in creating a new and different mix of amazing songs.

The band that got its start playing covers at local high schools has also produced two previous albums entitled “Time to Think” and “Dear Sons and Daughters of TV”. After five years of playing and travelling around Spain, The Home Phonema is looking forward to new challenges in 2009, thanks to the largely web-driven interest and popularity of their new album.

“There’s nothing left to give up” denotes the eclectic styles of their influences, ranging from the softer parts of bands such as Mogwai, Fugazi or Joy Division to the noisier songs of "clean sounding bands" like The Velvet Underground, The Arcade Fire and Radiohead."

While the songs may differ in harmony and melody, there remains a connecting thread, which generates a cohesive understanding of the album for the listener. “There’s Nothing Left to Give Up” was recorded by Carlos Toronado and mastered by J.M. Este próximo jueves 26 de marzo presentamos "There's nothing left to give up" en Madrid. Será en la Sala El Juglar (C/lavapies, 37, metro Lavapies) a partir de las 21:30h. Entrada a 5 euros. No será un concierto más, hay muchas ganas de volver a la capital y eso se demostrará sobre el escenario. Por cierto, da gusto trabajar con Tomaso (foto), encargado de los conciertos en la sala.

Concierto presentación del álbum en Torrijos

Allí estuvimos, después de mucho tiempo sin tocar en Torrijos y presentando el nuevo álbum. Fue todo un acierto utilizar el Salón de Actos como escenario ya que si bien hubo algunos que no quisieron sentarse y se fueron hacia atrás, la acústica fue muy buena. Además pudimos ver por primera vez a Winter Palace en directo, nuevo proyecto torrijeño que suena muy bien. Robomuchachos nos acompañaron con sus visuales y superando algún problema técnico (PAL nos tuvo que prestar un ampli, muchas gracias) todo salió muy bien. Gracias al Ayuntamiento de Torrijos por ayudar a que esto haya sido posible. Espero que los torrijeños sepamos lo que nos esforzamos porque siga habiendo conciertos allí, gratuitos, como fue el caso del fin de semana.

In Concert playing our new album in Torrijos. There we were, after have gone a while without playing in Torrijos, presenting our new album. Using the town's assembly hall was a good decision because, although a few people didn't want to sit and went to the back, the acoustics of the place were excellent. We got to enjoy ourselves listening to The Winter Palace, a new group from Torrijos, with an excellent sound. Robomuchachos accompanied us with his crazy and colourful light projections and with the exception of a few technical problems (we had to borrow one of PAL's amps) everything worked out just as planned. Thanks to the town council for making this happen. We hope that everyone can appreciate how much we try to keep live music sounding in Torrijos, and for free, like it was in yesterday's case.

Last Friday, the 20th, we had our first concert since the recording of our newest album, in Ciudad Real. As you can see we had lots of fun; people loved seeing us running around like chickens with their heads cut off, dressed in ridiculous costumes complete with masks and wigs, and dancing like there was no tomorrow.

The Home Phonema are so benevolent that when your attention to the group strays for just one moment they set up a concert at your pool for free. This time it was at Mario's place. After the “always a must” backyard barbecue and a couple beers, The Home Phonema unloaded their van and set their own tent for the show. El concierto de ayer junto a Amaro Ferreiro y Fabian en El Palacio de Pedro I en Torrijos fue un ejemplo de que "cuantos más vátios no siempre mejor" A pesar de contar con un tener un equipo bastante bueno el lugar reverbera muchísimo y el público acabó el concierto exhausto y pidiendo la hora. Si algo a destacar, los Robomuchachos y sus impresionantes proyecciones. No obstante la causa era buena, conseguir dinero para la lucha contra el alzheimer, que era al fin y al cabo de lo que se trataba. El concierto se encuadra en el Festival No me Sueltes, que tendrá lugar durante todo este mes.

Yesterday's concert was an example of "more watt is not always better.” Although we had a really good PA system, the place echoed badly and the audience ended up exhausted and struggling to stay ’till the end. The bright spot in the show was our VJ's projections. Despite everything that happened, good and bad, the goal of the gig was to collect money to fight against Alzheimer's disease, which turned out to be a big success. The gig was part of the "Festival No me Sueltes" festival celebrations, which continue the rest of this month.

Publico esto en retrospectiva, sé que nuestro primer concierto como The Home Phonema fue en julio de 2004 y sé que fue en la Mansión, en Torrijos. He encontrado en el ordenador esta foto de aquel evento. Parece que no tuviésemos ni barba. Por entonces eramos cuatro aunque David tocaba el bajo y Rober el saxo. Hubo una persona que se nos acercó después del concierto y nos dijo, "sonais mazo a Joy Division", "Jody qué? respondimos nosotros". ¡Qué pollos!

I post this as a flashback to the beginnings of The Home Phonema. I remember that our first gig as The Home Phonema was in July of 2004 and I do remember that it was at the concert hall "La Mansión", Torrijos, our home town. I found this picture from the event on my computer. We look like we hadn't even have facial hair yet. At that time there were four of us; David played the electric bass and Rober the saxophone. Someone came around at the end of the concert and told us "you guys sound like Joy Division". "Jody who?" we asked. We were so naïve!

¿Qué es un "home phonema"?
Podríamos haber cogido un folio, escrito nombres y finalmente elegido el mejor o menos malo. Sin embargo el nombre del grupo nació en un ensayo. Estabamos empezando y nuestro "juego de voces" era una minicadena de 40w. Un día se nos ocurrió empalmar a los dos altavoces que venían de serie otros dos más. De este modo la voz se oía igual de mal pero más repartida por el local. Aquello nos pareció todo un logro y David exclamó "Esto... esto es un puto home fonema" (juego de palabras entre "home cinema" y fonema).
¿Por qué escribir Fonema con Ph? Pués... no lo sé.

We could've gotten a piece of paper, written names on it and finally chosen the best or at least the least terrible idea. However, the band's name was born while practicing. We had been playing for a while and we had a 40w boom box as PA equipment. One day we had the bright idea that we could connect two extra speakers to our boom box. This done, we were able to listen to our voices’ same bad quality but now in surround sound. At that time we thought it was a total achievement and David exclaimed "This... this is a fucking home phonema" playing on words "home cinema" and "phoneme" ("fonema" in Spanish).
Why write "fonema" with "ph"? Not a clue.
